Lifetime Health Medical Group, a sister company of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, is pulling out of Central New York by shutting down a health center in Syracuse and spinning off a center in Central Square to a new operator.
Lifetime's two centers serve about 20,000 patients, two-thirds of them in Central Square.
Lifetime announced Tuesday it is leaving the area because the centers lost about $7 million over the past three years. Excellus, the area's largest health insurer, made a profit of $105 million last year.
The Central Square center will be taken over by the Syracuse Community Health Center and remain open.
