CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. _ With five weeks remaining before space shuttle Discovery's planned launch, NASA moved closer Wednesday to meeting an accident board's 15 recommendations for safely returning to flight.
An advisory group led by former astronauts Thomas Stafford and Richard Covey found the space agency had satisfied 12 of the recommendations made by the Columbia Accident Investigation Board. Three key items remain open, but all are expected to be wrapped up following a NASA review of launch-debris hazards scheduled for June 24.
