Have you ever wondered what makes the water pump on your boat tick? As you can see from Figure 1, the hole where the shaft comes through is not in the center of the housing. Well, you're probably thinking, somebody drilled the hole in the wrong place. And you may be right! But, as near as I can find out, this pump idea was invented by a fellow in Germany, back around the turn of the century, and marketed as a Jabsco pump. Whether it was an accident or a planned design is anyone's guess, but it does work, and these pumps, in one configuration or another, have been in use for many years in simple pumping operations.
