Confidence is still high in the Thai cinema exhibition sector. Leading group Major Cineplex predicts continuing consolidation and strong profits. Major Cineplex, which merged with rival EGV last year (see 2004/182b2), now controls 73 per cent of screens and predicts that this will rise to 80 per cent in 2005. It expects a 65 per cent jump in business, largely from its non-cinema activities such as its acquisition of 80 per cent stake in DVD/VCD distributor Pacific Marketing & Entertainment Group.
