Tyson Foods Inc. will investigate claims by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals that it improperly slaughtered chickens at one of its plants.

PETA, one of the largest animal rights groups, charged that workers at Tyson's Heflin, Ma., plant scalded and mutilated live chickens. PETA provided a video it said was taken inside the plant to support is claims.

Tyson said it takes animal welfare "very seriously" and said it would investigate PETA's claims.
