On May 10, 1970, Jochen Rindt scored one of the most dramatic victories ever in Formula One, passing world champion Jack Brabham on the final lap of the Monaco Grand Prix. His mount? Colin Chapman's famed Lotus 49, chassis No. R6.
Raced from 1967 to 1970 with Team Lotus, the 49 was the first truly integrated grand prix car-a car designed for the engine and vice versa. Lotus engineer Maurice Phillippe crafted a sleek monocoque that was married to the legendary Ford Cosworth dohc four-valve (DFV) V8 designed by Keith Duck-worth.
