Article: Lawmakers object to bridge-tunnel management's plans for toll money stash.

Jun. 12--Officials who run the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel have quietly tucked aside $90.4 million, and counting, for a little-known plan to build two tunnels on the little-used span to the state's little-inhabited Eastern Shore.

The anticipated cost: $900 million.

This as traffic backs up daily on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and at least $4 billion is needed to fix immediate transportation problems in Virginia.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is used so little that officials who run the operation spent $400,000 in advertising last year to entice tourists and truckers to use the span.
