If you are arrested by Auburn police, the odds are 1 in 100 that you'll get a taste of pepper spray, city police records show.
That's not a bad thing, police Chief Gary Giannotta said. He'd rather his officers use pepper spray than their handguns.
Critics of the city department's use of pepper spray say officers sometimes are too quick to use it and that innocent bystanders can get sprayed.
