Jun. 15--DON'T CALL IT A MONEY MARKET: Ford Motor Co. employees, retirees and other interest-hungry investors might have thought that they'd tucked their nest egg into one of the safest spots around when they invested in the Ford Money Market Account.
But their money isn't insured by the federal government, and it pays better-than-average rates because it's backed by unsecured corporate debt.
That's why the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced Tuesday that Ford Motor Credit Co. will pay $700,000 to settle allegations that it marketed the investment as if it were a traditional money market fund.
