Few would have bet that the New York Mets would make a bid for the title of 2005's "America's Team."
Just when it took a miracle to salvage any hope of the 2012 Summer Olympics landing in New York, the Mets were clutch when their city needed a rally. The Queens-based team stepped up to help the U.S. Olympic movement save face. That's worth something, though New York City still probably won't get to ignite that 2012 cauldron.
