Taxpayers have poured more than $700 million into abstinence-only sex education programs since 1997. Here's a short list of what they've gotten for their money: an alarming increase in high-risk sexual behavior among teenagers; no credible evidence that these programs have reduced teen pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases; direct promotion of specific religious activities in violation of federal law and a failure rate of 88 percent among students who pledge to delay having sex until marriage.
