Byline: staff writer Jim Read
William J. Lewis Sr. has been an active volunteer for the East Syracuse Fire Department since he first volunteered 70 years ago on June 23. East Syracuse Chief Joe McAllister, in a letter to the department's fire service awards committee, wrote of Lewis: "His continued dedication to protecting and serving his community as a 70-year member of the East Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department is a bold statement to his achievements and unwavering drive to continue to serve. ... Firefighter Lewis is an inspiration and a role model to all of the members of our department."
Lewis spoke recently with staff writer Jim Read.
