Roche's anti-obesity drug Xenical (orlistat) has been shown to be significantly more effective than lifestyle changes alone in managing weight in overweight adolescents, according to new study results published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, June 15 issue.
The trial results were consistent with those seen in adults and demonstrated that, at the end of treatment:
- adolescents treated with Xenical had a significantly-reduced body-mass index (decrease of 0.55kg/m2 compared to an increase of 0.31kg/m2 in the placebo group;
