Jun. 17--An American icon is leaving the country, as Brunswick Corp. announced Thursday that it would move production of its bowling balls to a plant in Mexico.
The Lake Forest-based company said it will be cheaper to manufacture bowling balls in Reynosa than it is in Muskegon, Mich., where the company has had its sole production line since 1906.
Brunswick said about 115 workers will lose their jobs as production is phased out over the next year or two. It said the move will save the company between $5 million and $6 million annually once the transition is complete. The equipment used to make the balls will be taken to ...
