Jun. 17--If an agreement between the city of Lodi and Van Ruiten Family Winery comes to fruition, then winery's wastes will be exchanged for the winery's best tastes.
City Council members unanimously approved Wednesday a proposal that may allow the winery to annually discharge about 1 million gallons of wastewater into the city's industrial waste line.
In exchange, the winery would open and operate a tasting room in downtown Lodi within 12 months.
"Van Ruiten had a need and we had a desire. It's a win-win," said Blair King, Lodi city manager.
