TELLURIDE -- Nobody gets a free ride at Telluride, even famous one-named pop singers. Jeff Simpson, a Kansas City clothing salesman, said he was expecting to "hate Jewel" as he stood in line for tacos Friday at the 32nd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival taking place in this southwestern Colorado mountain town.
"What's she doing here? For what they're paying her, they could've got Grisman and Rice,some really good musicians," Simpson said.
To Jewel's legions of fans, this was a giddy opportunity to hear the radio-friendly singer up close and personal, and they crowded close to the front of Town Park. ...
