Whether they're pawing apart bee hives in Columbia County or standing on their hind legs and slurping from bird feeders in Richland County, black bears are putting on a clownish show in southern Wisconsin this spring.
The bears, normally more at home in the state's wilder northern reaches, now have set up housekeeping in the southern two-thirds of the state, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
In fact, the growing number of bear sightings in southern counties, including Dane, has compelled DNR officials to begin educating local residents in bear etiquette.
