MOUNTAIN BIKENeil Adams, Minneapolis: Adams has broken his pelvis and his shoulder while racing bikes, but is going strong enough at 35 that two weeks ago he won the Clydesdale division (for bikers over 200 pounds) in the Wisconsin Off-Road Series, a mountain bike competition at Wisconsin Rapids. He prefers a single-speed bike (distinct from a fixed-gear in that he can choose to pedal or not while moving) because it requires "less thinking" while racing.
