Article: Schriever Air Force Base namesake dies at 94.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ Gen. Bernard A. Schriever, a founding father of Air Force Space Command, died at his Washington, D.C., home Monday.

The 94-year-old general was a German immigrant who was a bomber pilot in World War II and led America's efforts to field nuclear-tipped missiles as the Cold War dawned in the early 1950s. In 1998, the Air Force named Schriever Air Force Base in his honor.

"He was one of those people who was always in the right place at the right time," said Skip Bradley, Air Force Space Command's historian, who knew Schriever and studied his life.
