When a major player like Microsoft decides to move into a PC sound board market occupied by a half-dozen or so minor-league players, there are bound to be waves. With that in mind, Microsoft has gone out of its way to emphasize that its new Windows Sound System is a business tool.
You'll find no joystick or MIDI ports on the WSS, even though designing those features into the board would have posed no great technical challenge. It's interesting to note that the omission makes the WSS technically non-compliant with the MPC standard for sound generation boards.
