Navajos are the most studied Native American group in the United States and as a result the most written about as well. Yet the extensive corpus has not included any previous book devoted exclusively to Navajo beadwork. Perhaps this lacuna is because beadwork is such a recent artistic endeavour among the Navajos, dating from the second half of the twentieth century, and achieving prominence only in the past decade or so.
