When Caterpillar previewed its 2007 heavy-duty truck engines at the recent Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., a lot of what the Peoria, Ill., company showed seemed very familiar to anyone who has followed the truck engine business since 2001. It's just that some of it didn't seem all that familiar when talking about Cat engines.

What hadn't changed was Caterpillar's overall emissions strategy, as it is basing its 2007 truck engines on the foundation of its ACERT Technology. What was very different was one additional piece of emissions-related hardware that had more than a few observers doing a double-take because of its resemblance to another technology ...
