The Minnesota Orchestra's most ambitious undertaking of the season, three performances of Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem," a collaboration with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and four local choruses - in all, about 300 performers - got underway impressively at Orchestra Hall Thursday night.
If there was anything missing, it was a sense of space - of distance - that Britten asks for in the positioning of the forces on stage and apparently got in the premiere in 1962, placing the smaller orchestra apart from the larger ensemble and having the boys choir in the distance.
