Jun. 28--Google went out of its way to say the online payments system it is planning won't compete with PayPal's, and PayPal announced a new payment service aimed at broadening its market beyond the eBay auction business.

Together, the developments have executives at PayPal and eBay, PayPal's parent, smiling as they celebrate eBay's 10th anniversary.

Ryan Downs, PayPal's vice president of global operations, is gearing up PayPal's operations center in La Vista to meet new growth.
