A year ago today, Tidewater Auto Auction announced before a large crowd and the governor that construction would begin soon on a 45,000-square-foot facility for selling about 3,000 cars weekly to dealers, creating hundreds of jobs in industry-poor Currituck County.
But the 100-acre tract where the company plans to locate remains vacant, and Currituck officials say they don't know why.
"I think they need to come forward and let the county know what's going on," said Paul O'Neal, a Currituck County commissioner.
