Modern fencing and garden decking may to be blame for a huge fall in the number of hedgehogs living in Wales. The results of the 2004 Mammals on Roads survey shows that numbers of hedgehogs spotted per mile has declined by up to 20% - far lower than in previous years, following a worrying trend of decline in England and Wales since the survey was started in 2001.
