PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local PUNJAB STATE ELECTRICITY BOARD (PSEB) is currently gearing-up to build a new power station in Doraha, near Ludhiana in Punjab, India. In so doing, PSEB and GAIL (INDIA) LTD. recently signed an agreement for the supply of 4.5 million standard cubic meters per day of natural gas for the proposed mega power project. As a result, GAIL is expected to acquire a 10% stake in the venture.
Construction plans under consideration call for building a natural gas-fired power plant with an installed generating capacity of 1,000 Mw. The cost to complete the project, by March 2009, has been estimated at $990,000,000.
