For most Canadians, any questioning of the actions of Lieutenant General (retired) Romeo Dallaire, the darling of Canada's media, is an attack on a saint. One newspaper headline referred to "The Solitary, Tortured Nobility of Romeo Dallaire." Since returning from Rwanda where he led the 1994 UN mission that failed to prevent the massacre of over half a million men, women, and children, Dallaire has received a never-ending series of media attention, awards, and government jobs. Until his recent appointment as a Liberal senator, many felt he might become Canada's next governor general.
