The 28th international conference on the Antarctic Treaty, staged over two weeks in Stockholm, ended on June 17 with the conclusion of an agreement to make countries or companies responsible for environmental damage pay. "The key result of the conference has been the finalising after 13 or 14 years of negotiations (...) of the Annex on Liability to the Antarctic Treaty's existing Protocol on Environmental Protection", said Tony Press, the Australian Chairman of the environmental protection committee.
