Mobile phone companies have launched a guide to help beat increasing student harassment by mobile phone calls, text messages and pictures. The guide warns that offensive messages sent from mobile phones can be traced and that the perpetrators could face criminal charges. It also advises children not to give out their phone numbers, not to respond to messages from bullies, and to keep a record of unwanted calls as evidence, including the content and the date and time when they were sent.
A study in 2004 by the Australian Psychological Society of 258 Melbourne and Sydney students in Years 7-12 found that 10% had received threatening messages on their mobile phones ...
