Bob Marx didn't know when to quit. Or if he did, he simply chose not to.
On leave from the Navy in 1947 and headed home to Colorado for the holidays, Mr. Marx was in a car accident that shattered one of his legs. It put him in the hospital for months and led to his medical discharge.
Less than two years later, after working construction in Glenwood Springs and running three miles a day to rehabilitate, Mr. Marx joined the football team at Colorado A&M in Fort Collins. The school would become Colorado State University.
