Both glucosamine and chondroitin are natural components of human joint cartilage. As supplements, they show promise for relieving osteoarthritis pain, inhibiting joint inflammation, and protecting--perhaps even regenerating--healthy cartilage. Glucosamine supplements are typically made from shrimp, lobster, or crab shells; chondroitin is usually derived from cow cartilage.
