New York Seven-Up Bottling Company Inc., operating as Joyce Beverages of New York Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June 5 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in White Plains.

The New Rochelle company, a major bottler and soft drink distributor, listed assets of $16.3 million and liabilities of $39.1 million.

Joyce Beverages ceased bottling and soft drink distribution operations on Oct. 23, 1991, laying off 105 workers. The company has only six employees and plans to liquidate most of its assets in order to fund a reorganization plan, according to court documents.

Several years ago, Joyce employed 250 workers at its New Rochelle plant.
