During a recent stay at Wrightsville Beach, four of us -- working women all -- shook the sand from our shoes one evening and set out for supper at Wilmington's Ferrovia.
Two of my friends -- Jane from Clemson, S.C., and Janet from Albuquerque, N.M. -- harbored some serious misgivings about beach cuisine, expecting, at best, surf'n'turf entrees trapped in plastic baskets and served in surroundings embellished with seashells, lacquered marlins and seascapes.
But Ferrovia turned out to be as offbeat and electrifying as the huge, lively canvases that adorn its exposed brick walls. Over Janet's shoulder hung a vast double canvas depicting a bacchanalian banquet ...
