OAKLAND, Calif. _ White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen reinforced his support for embattled pitcher Jose Contreras, one day after Contreras walked a season-high seven batters and threw three wild pitches in 4 1/3 innings Friday night.
"I think this kid is just aiming the ball," Guillen said before Saturday night's game against the Athletics. "I think he was beating himself. He was throwing well, and all of a sudden he tried to be perfect."
Contreras (3-5) threw only 50 of 97 pitches for strikes and threw 30 pitches in the fourth inning after needing only nine to retire the side in order in the first.
