MAKE IT A CUSTOM DEFINITION
Client/server computing takes maximum advantage of the combination of many new hardware and software technologies, thereby increasing productivity and reducing costs.
Some of the most important of these new technologies include graphical user interfaces (GUIs), extremely powerful PCs, workstations, servers and local-area networks (LANs).
The concepts of network and distributed computing have been evolving for decades. LANs and distributed computing had their origin two decades ago, with much credit going to the development of Ethernet at Xerox Corp.'s Palo Alto Research Center.
