The growth rate for PE film in China was 7.3% in 2004, with demand reaching over 7.3 Mt. This growth rate is slower than 2003, due to a combination of factors, including rising raw material prices, anti-dumping duties on Chinese plastic bags in the USA, power shortages and Chinese government measures to prevent the economy from overheating.

However, the Chinese market for PE films is still relatively buoyant, and future growth rates are predicted to be strong, underpinned by growing domestic demand for various film products, such as bags and agricultural film, and by significant investment in export oriented manufacturers.
