As one of the many people who wrote to Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand some months ago expressing dismay at NZNO's support of the Civil Union Bill without a mandate from its members, I was once again dismayed to read that those who opposed NZNO's support of this Bill were being labelled "homophobic" ("Unions affirm sexual and gender diversity", Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand, April, p6.)
The lesbian women I nurse receive the same care and respect as any other woman in my care. I certainly do not nurse them with a "morbid fear or aversion", which is how the dictionary describes phobia. Don't we all have a right to our own opinions and to express them without being called names ...
