A U.S. District Court in Utah in mid-April challenged a portion of FDA's ban on ephedra, mandating that the agency revise its rule-making as it applies to low-dose ephedra products. According to the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), Silver Spring, MD, the ruling has no effect on FDA's ban on higher dose products, such as those formerly sold to promote weight loss. As a result of this decision, AHPA president Michael McGuffin speculates that dose will become a central issue for all dietary supplements going forward.
