INTRODUCTION
The Spaniards, with the help of unexampled monstrous deeds, covering themselves with an indelible shame, could not succeed in exterminating the Indian race, nor even prevent it from sharing their rights; the Americans of the United States have attained this double result with marvelous facility--tranquilly; legally, philanthropically, without spilling blood, without violating a single one of the great principles of morality in the eyes of the world.
