For the past half century on each Independence Day, an old cast iron grill is removed from storage to cook breakfast at Grace Lutheran Church.
Depending on whom you asked, Monday was either the 52nd or 53rd annual Fourth of July breakfast at the church.
"People come for the fellowship and the joy of being together with friends or people they haven't seen since the last Fourth of July breakfast," said Tim Hovet of Springfield, the event organizer.
Breakfast was served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., with the first customers - some parishioners from south Eugene - arriving by Lane Transit District bus.
