The Prospect Park quarry has been producing fine mineral specimens for more than a century. In terms of quality minerals it is possibly the most significant trap-rock quarry in the world. Not many localities can boast fine native silver, chalcocite crystals to 3.75 cm, red stilbite "bow-ties" to 14 cm, endless morphologies of calcite, barite crystals to 14 cm, some of the world's finest prehnite, and arguably the finest known examples of chabazite, gmelinite, and thomsonite.
