DIGOS CITY The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has expressed support for a proposal calling for the establishment of a Mindanao Republic, saying it is one recourse in solving the decades-long conflict in the south.

Meanwhile, the militant Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) slammed the Mindanao Republic proposal, calling it as another ploy of Malacanang and its allies to muddle the issue over the clamor for President Arroyo to resign.

In an interview, MILF spokesperson Eid Kabalu said the MILF has been looking for peaceful means to achieve a lasting peace in Mindanao.
