Jul. 8--KERRVILLE -- The outdoor benches once designated for puffers have vanished and the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital parking lot is now patrolled for telltale fumes in the wake of a far-reaching smoking ban enacted by the facility this week.
"Thank God," said Shirley Gilmer, a regular visitor weary of encountering tobacco clouds by the smoking area that, curiously, was beside the emergency room entrance.
"It was almost to the point where I didn't want to come back," Gilmer said.
