Article: Thinking outside the pyramid.(The New Food Guide Pyramid)

In late April, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released its new version of the old Food Guide Pyramid that was invented in 1992. Like the old pyramid, the new one emphasizes eating mostly whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

Unlike the old pyramid, however, the new one allows for so-called "good" fats to be eaten--mostly from fish, nuts and vegetable oils. It also takes into account your age, sex, and how much physical activity you do in a day. Plus, this one is much more colorful and reads from top to bottom instead of side to side.
