Introduction
The phenomenon of soil water repellency has been recognised in various parts of the world (DeBano 2000; Doerr et al. 2000; Jaramillo et al. 2000) including the Netherlands (Hooghoudt 1950; Dekker and Jungerius 1990; Dekker and Ritsema 1996, 2000) and has resulted in serious land-use problems in agriculture (Blackwell 2000) and an ongoing management problem on sand-based turfgrass systems (Cisar et al. 2000).
