As far as gods go, Zeus and most of his cronies on Mount Olympus were real scumbags. They totally dug being omnipotent and all-powerful, and they took every opportunity to screw with us mortals because, in the pre-television, pre-Playstation, pre-NASCAR days, tormenting humans was how those sick buggers got their jollies. I think us flesh-and-blood types have been suspicious of any god identified by a lower-case "g" every since.
