For my money, it's still the most pleasant movie experience in town.
OK, so you do occasionally have to deal with broken seats. And because it was built in 1962, the sight lines aren't the greatest -- particularly if a UW basketball player or some chump in a softball cap happens to plop down in front of you.
But because it's one of just three theaters left in this city that shows art films -- the Westgate and the Orpheum being the others -- the Hilldale Theatre tends to attract an older crowd. (Or as the late Jerry Fladen, the Hilldale's former manager, used to put it, "a more sophisticated crowd.") Which means you rarely ...
