Division I would offer NKU the opportunity to play against bigger-name opponents and, after a five-year reclassification process, permit the Norse to compete for national championships in Division I.
However, Division I is considerably more expensive than Division II because Division I requires more scholarships for an increased number of student-athletes and requires hiring more staffers to administer Division I's tougher rules and make sure the school abides by them.
