Jul. 14--Lung transplant pioneer Dr. Joel D. Cooper will leave Washington University School of Medicine late this summer for an endowed chair of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.
Cooper, 66, said he had hoped to continue at Washington University but has felt under increasing pressure to retire.
The university said the decision to leave was his. In a statement issued Wednesday, it thanked Cooper for his faculty service and contributions to medical science.
